The Fontana di Trevi is one of largest and most famous Fontane the in Rome and in the World. Built in 700 by Nicolò Salvi, yet today we can admire it in all its glory to the side of Palazzo Poli.
The prince concept, on which it founds the construction, is the sea. Indeed there are seahorses that dragged a wagon-shaped Conchiglia and tritons, really a beautiful composition of water. As tradition, once you visit the fountain, with the back turned to it, you must throw a coin expressing a wish, this would certainly be back to visit the magnificent Rome. All the coins that are collected are intended to altruistic activities for the poor of Rome.
The origins of the Fountain are deemed to have started with the Empire of King Augustus, when his brother-in-law had come running water until the Pantheon and its spa through the Virgin Aqueduct. The same was used throughout the Middle Ages and restored in time, until by order of Pope Urban VII, Bernini and optimizes the aqueduct renewed, following a new stage to make it visible from the Palace of the Pope (Palazzo Barberini). But with the death of Pope Urban VII and with the arrival of Innocent X Pamphili the work of the new structure is stopped.

Following Pope Innocent XIII wanted to extend its family possession until the Piazza di Trevi, in order to overlook the Fountain with its Palace, which had remained incomplete. It was not until Pope Clement XII Corsini to realize the importance of the square and the fountain, to the point of return in the hands of their destinies. It was then architect Nicolò Salvi that built the fountain in 1732, according to the Baroque and Classical construction styles.

He increased the basic idea of Pope Urban VII and Bernini: he telling through this sculpture and works, the history of sections of the Virgin.
